Theatre students from Central High School will perform in a one-act play, “Why Kwanzaa,” written by Nefertiti Burton, Chair of UofL’s Theatre Arts Department, at the Shawnee Arts and Cultural Center’s Kwanzaa celebration from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 26. Directed by Kristi Papailler, Theatre teacher at Central, the play is meant to teach students about Kwanzaa. The event continues the partnership between UofL’s African American Theatre Program and the Theatre Program at Central High School. It is free and open to the public.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES
Todd Mooradian has been named the new dean of UofL’s College of Business, pending board approval. Mooradian is the associate dean for faculty and academic affairs and the William J. Fields Professor of Business at the College of William & Mary Mason School of Business Administration in Williamsburg, Virginia. He holds a PhD in marketing from the University of Massachusetts, an MBA from Wake Forest University, and a BS in business administration from the University of New Hampshire. This marks the final UofL Today of 2016. UofL Today will not be sent during winter break. UofL Today will return Tuesday, Jan. 3, when the university is back in session. Announcements scheduled to run in the Jan. 3 edition must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 23 at noon.
Momentary power outages possible across campus
Please be advised the Physical Plant Department will be completing the last series of electrical distribution upgrades to support the requirements of the new Belknap Academic Classroom Building and the Student Activities Center starting this Friday, December 23, at 5 p.m. However, a momentary power outage across campus could occur when work begins at 5 p.m. Friday. All are advised to power down computers and other sensitive equipment before departing campus this Friday, Dec. 23.
In addition Fairfax will be without power on January 3, from 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. to complete restore. All are advised to power down computers and other sensitive equipment before departing campus on January 3, 2017.
Reminder, the following buildings will be without chilled water from January 2 – January 9: College of Business, Life Science Building, Lutz Hall, Music School, Natatorium, Planetarium, Shoemaker Research Building and Strickler Hall.
Welcome Week 2017 event submission request
First Year Initiatives is planning for Welcome Week 2017 (Aug. 16-20). If your office/organization would like to host an event during Welcome Week, complete the Interest Form by February 10. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as we can, as we build an overall event flow which is intentional and strategic.
Dept. of Medicine releases corrected AHA 2017 pre-doc and post-doc budget templates
The Department of Medicine of Medicine has released corrected versions of these two templates, so if downloaded previously, please replace with these new versions, found online.
Starting January 3: Outdated international travel forms no longer accepted
Beginning January 3, 2017, the Office of Study Abroad and International Travel will be unable to accept old versions of faculty and staff travel forms. Please ensure you have the current forms here.

New competitive faculty research opportunities available
The Cooperative Consortium for Transdisciplinary Social Justice Research has announced new competitive faculty research opportunities at UofL to begin in early 2017. The Consortium was created to fund social justice research teams, projects, creative activities, and community-engaged scholarship addressing intransigent social problems and systemic inequalities. Funding is available for transdisciplinary research teams as defined in the Call for Proposals (CFP). The CFP has a late January 2017 deadline and is available on the Muhammad Ali Institute website and the Anne Braden Institute website. The Consortium is funded as a 21st Century University Initiative through an iRFP grant and matching funds from seven colleges and units, as well as several University offices.
Medicine Grand Rounds taking holiday break; returns January 5
Medicine Grand Rounds is taking a break for the holidays, and will resume its normal schedule on Thursday, January 5, 2017. There will be no Grand Rounds on December 22 or December 29.

Health Assessment deadline extended by Get Healthy Now
In order to allow all benefit eligible employees the opportunity to participate in Get Healthy Now and earn the $40 monthly premium incentive, the deadline to complete the Health Assessment (HA) has been extended to December 21. Annual completion of the HA is mandatory for participation in GHN. To get enrolled: Complete the online Health Assessment annually during Open Enrollment; Within 2-3 weeks of completing the HA, you will receive a Health Advisory Call to review results and participation guidelines. Questions? 1-888-886-4684 (option 2); Earn Rewards: If you’re Overall Wellness Score (OWS) is 67 or above, you’ve earned your rewards for 2017. If it’s 66 or below, action is required for rewards. Get Healthy Now Wellness Center closed for Christmas Holiday
The GHN Wellness Center will be closed December 21-December 23 for deep cleaning, December 24 -26 in observance of the holidays, and December 31–January 2 in observance of New Years. We will operate on hoilday hours (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) December 27-30. Normal hours of operation will resume Tuesday, January 3 (6 a.m.– 5 p.m.)
