    DID YOU KNOW

    Danish composer Bent Sorensen has won the 2018 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition for a triple concerto. The piece, L’isola della Città (The Island in the City), is for violin, cello and piano soloists and is played continuously in five movements. The work premiered in Copenhagen in January, 2016. The New York Philharmonic will premiere one of Sorensen’s new works November 30.

    Daniela Terson de Paleville, CEHD assistant professor in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences, has been named a 2017 Cooperative Consortium for Transdisciplinary Social Justice Research Fellow. She is the team lead for the project, “‘Minds in Motion’ in a Spanish Immersion School.” Team members are Jason Immekus, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development, and Kristi King, associate professor in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences.

    Apply now for Delphi U Online Spring 2018

    Feb. 5 through April 8, online; free
    The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning announces an online course, Delphi U Online, to prepare instructors to teach online. Participants will learn two primary concepts: What it is like to be an online learner and how to effectively teach online. This is for full and part-time faculty planning to teach a new fully online course or enhance a current online course. Registration is now open and positions are limited.

    Looking for guidance in the iRIS system with eProposals, Institutional Review Board forms, or Attestation and Disclosure Forms? Faculty, staff, and researchers seeking one-on-one instruction in iRIS are encouraged to drop in anytime during this time to meet with an iRIS Specialist. Starting in January, additional workshops on HSC and Belknap will continue monthly and be posted online.

    Medicine Grand Rounds: Dr. Boris Lushniak

    Medicine Grand Rounds features RADM (Ret.) Boris D. Lushniak, MD, MPH, Dean and Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Maryland School of Public Health and former Acting Surgeon General of the United States. Lushniak will present “Public Health and Dermatology: From Policy to Pox” focusing on naming the core public health functions as they apply to skin cancer, describing the components of the public health model, and identifying the main public health bio-threats.
