LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A free, public lesson on urban maple tree tapping will be held Jan. 18 on the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus.
The noon event in Garden Commons community garden outside the Cultural Center, 120 E. Brandeis Ave., will begin with a demonstration, then students and volunteers will tap trees around Belknap Campus.
Workshop leader and Louisville resident Dave Barker has been tapping UofL trees and making syrup from the sap since 2016.
“We are always looking for ways to use UofL’s campus as a living laboratory for sustainability,” said Justin Mog, assistant to the provost for sustainability initiatives.
The UofL syrup will be served at a pancake party April 19 in Ekstrom Library.
