    The School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies’ Minority Association of Graduate Students became an official registered student organization in January 2015, beginning programming in August 2015. In its first year, MAGS sponsored 18 events and received two RSO awards, including for Best Collaboration and Social Justice and Inclusion.

    1.) Bioethics information session scheduled

    July 5, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Instructional Building Room 205; Free

    Faculty or Staff interested in the intersection of Health Care, Philosophy, Humanities, and Law should attend an information session about a degree opportunity that can be completed part-time with your tuition benefit. As a special bonus we will waive the graduate school application fee for those who attend.

    2.) Last day for Open Walls faculty/staff art exhibit

    The annual show for faculty and staff will run through June 30 in the Photographic Archives gallery, part of Archives & Special Collections, in the Ekstrom Library. The exhibit is an opportunity for UofL employees who are not professional or exhibited artists to share their work. A variety of media, including paintings, photography, fiber arts, crafts and jewelry, is on display.

    3.) Belknap Farmers Market open today

    June 30, 3:30-6 p.m., 3rd Street and Brandeis Avenue

    Come check out the variety of products offered by 14 local farmers and vendors from Kentucky and Indiana.

    4.) Gray Street Farmers Market open today

    Thursdays through Oct. 27, rain or shine, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 400 block of East Gray Street

    Some items available today include: various baked goods; sweet corn, baby carrots, greens, garlic, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, zucchini, green beans, cucumbers, onions, and sunflowers; antibiotic and hormone free beef, chicken, pork, lamb, rabbit, bison, frog legs, duck, goat, and eggs; kettle corn, maple syrup, jams, and pickled items; and all natural soaps, lotions, bug spray, and alcohol free hand sanitizer. Lunch: Boo Boo’s Smoke Shack (barbeque), Flavor You Can Savor (sandwiches and sides), and Holy Mole (tacos).

    5.) Fourth of July Get Healthy Now hours

    The GHN Wellness Center will be closed on Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Normal hours of operation will resume Tuesday, July 5.

    6.) Infant scientists wanted

    HSPPO#: 053.06; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Davidson Hall

    The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 8 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. Infants will receive a UofL t-shirt or bib for participating.

    7.) Participants needed for blood draw study

    IRB # 15.0856; Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m., July, Clinical Trials Unit, Heathcare Outpatient Center, HSC

    UL’s School of Medicine and the American Heart Association Tobacco Research and Addiction Center (A-TRAC) are conducting a study that will use blood to study the effects of flavoring added to both tobacco products and e-cigarettes. One-time blood draw of less than 2 tablespoons. The study is recruiting healthy unmedicated young adults (18-40 years of age) who have never used tobacco. The study will last approximately 30 minutes. Participant compensation will be $30 as a Swift pre-paid card.

    8.) Paid healthy volunteers needed for study

    UofL Caregiver Stress Study is looking for healthy European American, 40 years and older who have NOT provided care for an ill friend or family member in the last year to fill out a questionnaire and provide saliva samples for up to three different time points. Each visit takes approximately 1 hour. We are offering $20 compensation for each visit.
